Salesforce Database-as-a-Service solution has been opened to be accessed by public users from any language, any platform, and any device through standardsbased APIs. It runs in world-class data centers with backup, failover, and disasterrecovery facilities with 99.9 percent uptime guarantees. It provides a suite of APIs designed for di erent purposes. For example, social APIs enable end-user collaboration, data APIs integrate the data to other tiers of the architecture, and metadata APIs which are used to manage the lifecycle of the applications. It provides a choice of protocols (SOAP, REST), data formats (XML, JSON), granularity (CRUD, custom), and patterns (inbound, outbound, pub/sub, synchronous, asynchronous) to ensure that the user have the right tools for any job. Language toolkits are also available to further simplify development by providing a native binding to the APIs from Java, Ruby, PHP, Flex, iOS and Android. It relies on a sophisticated identity and access management capabilities to ensure that each application can get the right data, to the right people, at the right time, with the right access permissions in a secured way.
