Title Acceptance / Safari QA

After a title is promoted, Safari’s Content Team reviews it to confirm the basic requirements have been met, including legibility, functionality, and completeness. The Content Team alerts publishers when titles do or do not pass QA; those that pass are made available on the live server, and those that do not pass are returned to the publisher for further improvements. The Content Team details any issues to the publisher (and also their uploading agency, if appropriate). Once the publisher or uploading agency has corrected the title and notified the Content Team, the fix is verified and the title is made available on the live server. The title acceptance process from promotion to live, for titles that pass QA, is typically 3 working days.

The QA process confirms the following:

  • TOC works in both Flash and HTML
  • HTML flows appropriately
  • Figures are legible in Flash, HTML, and PDF download
  • PDF downloads generate successfully and contain working bookmarks
  • All four sizes of the cover are present
  • Title Overview is complete and properly formatted
  • Companion files mentioned in the Overview or in the frontmatter are available via the Extras tab
  • Video clips play
  • Consistency of title, author, and edition number in the Catalog page metadata, cover thumbnails, Safari Title Overview tab, and copyright page

During this process, the Content Team also assigns the category codes for subject, vendor, and product to each title. These category codes govern browsing by subject. Subject categories also determine libraries of content on Safari. Some subscription types and/or Safari products restrict access to certain libraries based on subject category.
