Titles on Safari are not sold as individual downloads; rather, they are made available online in a cloud library. Our users are able to add notes and bookmarks in the cloud to any title their subscription gives them access to, and for this reason, we do not remove older or seemingly outdated titles. If we removed a title, subscribers would lose all of their notes and bookmarks in that book. Titles should be removed from Safari only when the publisher’s rights to distribute the title have expired, or if there are legal issues. When this happens, the publisher can email techsupport@safaribooksonline.com with a removal request. Please include ISBN, title, author, the reason for the removal, and the requested removal date.
If a title is a bit out of date, but the publisher still retains the rights to distribute, Safari would like to keep the title in the library for the reasons stated above. But there are things you can do to drive readers to your newer titles.
If a title has been updated with a newer edition, you can add a metadata tag in the newer edition. That way, when a reader searches Safari, only the newest edition will appear in the search results. Also, if someone does access the older title, there will be a link to the newest edition from the older title's catalog page.
Please use prevedition carefully, because if used incorrectly it can make locating titles via search difficult. When there is a book on a new version of software, that does not qualify as a prevedition. For example, if a title is about Photoshop CS3, and another title about Photoshop CS5, this would not be a case to use prevedition.
It's a good idea to always include the edition number as part of the title (for new editions), to make it easier for readers to locate the most current title. For example:
Mac OS X Snow Leopard: The Missing Manual, 2nd Edition
If you normally include a link to buy the print version on your website (via buyprint metadata), you may wish to remove the buyprint link for older titles.
There has been error in communication with Booktype server. Not sure right now where is the problem.
